The PS3 hacking scene is growing by leaps and bounds ever since Sony sued Geohot for hacking the PS3 and banned jailbroken PS3 owners from PSN. After that happened, hardcore PS3 hackers found a new jailbreak exploit for PS3 firmware 3.56 and a CPU based jailbreak exploit for PS3 firmware 3.60. Word from PSX-Scene is that hackers are working to provide PS3 users with the ability to choose the particular OS they want to boot into on the PS3.
A relatively new PS3 hacker by the name of Kmeaw says that he might starting working on providing PS3 users the ability to dual-boot their consoles.
I was thinking of a CFW that has bootOS integrated so it gets executed when you power on your PS3 (and switches back to GameOS on user’s request via menu or ssh). It’s not hard to make it.
But recently I read graf’s announcement that he is going to accomplish the same task. So I don’t know, if such CFW from me would get any demand.
Also I got bootos-installer and lv2patcher patches from an anonymous hacker who have added 3.15/3.41 support. I’m going to merge them into my code and release the next version.
If you have any ideas about what would you like to have, please tell me.
It may be quite exciting for the end user to have the ability to dual-boot PS3 custom firmware. According to what we’ve read up till now about Kmeaw, it seems like people do not doubt his ability to accomplish any feat of this sort, so keep your fingers crossed for an early release!
