Redsn0w 0.9.6 for untethered iOS 4.3.1 jailbreak is finally out. Both Redsn0w 0.9.6 and PwnageTool 4.3 use the iOS 4.3.1 untethered jailbreak exploit that was handed over to the iPhone Dev Team by Stefan Esser. Using this guide, you will be able to jailbreak iOS 4.3.1 untethered on your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.
Remember: Redsn0w 0.9.6 supports iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad 1 and iPod touch 3G/4G for the untethered iOS 4.3.1 jailbreak. iPad 2 is not supported as Apple has fixed the exploit on it.
If you rely on an unlock for iPhone, the iPhone Dev-Team is working on ultrasn0w update for iOS 4.3.1 unlock. So for now, stay away from stock iOS 4.3.1 if you value your carrier unlock!
How to Jailbreak iOS 4.3.1 Untethered On iPhone, iPad, iPod touch using Redsn0w 0.9.6 for Windows
First, you need to do the following:
Download iOS 4.3.1 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch
Download iTunes 10.2.1
Download Redsn0w 0.9.6RC9
Step 1: Download the respective iOS 4.3.1 firmware file for your iOS device.
Step 2: Once you have downloaded the ipsw for your device, fire up iTunes 10.2.1. Then, press and hold the Shift key and click on Restore. iTunes will now prompt you to navigate to the location, and select the ipsw file you downloaded earlier. Select it, and restore your device to iOS 4.3.1.
Step 3: Once your device is restored to stock iOS 4.3.1, open up Redsn0w 0.9.6 and click on Browse to select the ipsw that you downloaded earlier.
Once you click Open, Redsn0w will then indentify the ipsw file. When identification successfully completes, Redsn0w 0.9.6 will show the following message:
Step 4: Click Next and select Install Cydia. You can also select any of the other options given as well.
Remember: It is essential that your device is powered OFF and connected to your computer before you click next. Double check, and then click on Next.
Redsn0w 0.9.6 will then show instructions on how to put your device in DFU mode. Follow them carefully to put your device in DFU mode.
- Hold Power button for 3 seconds
- Then hold Power and Home buttons together for 10 seconds
- Release Power button but keep holding Home button till installation starts
Step 5: Redsn0w will now work its magic on your device. A series of automated steps will start, and once they are complete, your iOS device will reboot automatically. Voila! Your device is now running untethered jailbroken iOS 4.3.1.
