The rumor mill is churning and by the looks of it, its churning quite fast. Word on the internet is that Facebook is set to make a deal that will give the world’s biggest social network an immense amount of exposure in the huge Chinese market. Regardless of the fact that such rumors have been making waves since early 2007, however this time around the word comes from reliable industry sources.
This rumored new social network that Facebook is going to build in China, will probably be restricted for native Chinese only, considering how the country keeps such a closed nature.
According to rumors, Facebook is going to work with Baidu which is largest search engine of China. Interestingly, Hu Yanping, founder of the Data Center of the China Internet tweeted that Facebook as penned down a contract with Baidu for creating a new social network specially for China. Baidu, which is valued at $50 billion dollars, may be looking to partner with Facebook on this new project.
So if Facebook does make a new social network particularly for China, expect it to be tightly censored and conforming to their views. We’ll update as soon as we hear more about this project.
