Microsoft Says NoDo for AT&T Ready, Adds WISPr and Address Book Support

A couple of days earlier it was confirmed that AT&T will be rolling out Windows Phone 7 NoDo update for some of its devices. In light of that, Microsoft has confirmed that AT&T NoDo update is ready and has even updated the where’s my phone update? page to let us know that delivery is on schedule for AT&T LG Quantum and Samsung Focus devices. HTC Surround by AT&T will not see the NoDo update until mid May as testing is still underway.

Windows Phone 7 NoDo Update

But we know we still have plenty of work to do. The HTC Surround, for example, won’t be joining the update party just yet. I know that probably comes as a letdown to Surround owners, so let me spend a moment explaining why.

The updates we deliver contain a complex stew of software code. The content often includes not only our fixes and improvements but also software supplied by companies that make the phone itself and the chips inside it. One of these third-party software “packages” earmarked for the HTC Surround needs additional testing by both Microsoft and AT&T. I apologize for the delay. As soon as I have more news, I’ll let you know.

So it is evident that AT&T HTC Surround owners will have to wait a while for the NoDo update. However, there is good news for AT&T LG Quantum and Samsung Focus owners as NoDo is going to bring two very exclusive features to these devices. First, is the “WISPr” protocol support which will automatically switch over your phone’s data connection to AT&T Wi-Fi hotspots when they are in range. The second, is AT&T Address Book, which is a wireless sync tool to keep your AT&T Windows Phone 7 device and your online address book, in complete sync.
