The Chronic Dev Team has put up a detailed blog post on its website updating everyone about Greenpois0n RC6.2, the current state of iPad 2 jailbreak and Greenpois0n iOS 4.3.x jailbreak.
We already know that Joshua Hill a.k.a @p0sixninja of the Chronic Dev Team has challenged iPhone hacking maestro Geohot to dump the A5 (iPad 2) bootrom before he does.
Now since that happened, you can see people asking p0sixninja on twitter everyday that when iPad 2 jailbreak is going to be available. For that, the Chronic Dev Team says:
As I’m sure many people have heard, Josh (posixninja) has recently been quoted saying the iPad 2 jailbreak is coming in “weeks”, I know I have been very publicly abrasive and non-commital on giving any kind of timeframe or comment on this matter, but at the behest of Josh (in conjunction with his need for a swift kick to the ass for motivation) we’re ALL going to hold him to that!!! I’m not going to get into extensive detail about this, but what I will say one of the missing puzzle pieces may have reared its head and cast a glance in our direction… take from that what you will.
NOTE: WE will hold him to that, please do NOT badger him with “is it done yet, when will it be ready?!?!, does it wear a slipcover from an elevator sandwich?”
As soon as iOS 4.3 was released back in March, we could easily jailbreak it using redsn0w, sn0wbreeze and pwnagetool. Greenpois0n was however, missing. After that came iOS 4.3.1, 4.3.2 and 4.3.3 all of which can be jailbroken using the above mentioned tool, whereas an iOS 4.3.x Greenpois0n jailbreak has still not made its way. Why? Here’s why:
In the past I have also said that 4.3.x support was on hold for greenpois0n to focus on iPad 2 jailbreak exclusively, our course has slightly changed (primary focus has never shifted from iPad 2 since it was released) it has now become possible to easily update and execute a workflow to enable RC6.2 (tentatively speaking… mmm #dirt) to be released “soon”…
While most of us aren’t that enthusiastic for an iOS 4.3.x Greenpois0n jailbreak, but we sure are for an iPad 2 jailbreak. Let’s see if Greenpois0n RC6.2 is able to jailbreak iPad 2 well before Geohot dumps the bootrom. It has already been confirmed that Stefan Esser, i0n1c, doesn’t have an iPad 2 jailbreak and we should be aware of fake iPad 2 jailbreaks.
One more thing the Chronic Dev Team told us about, was official Greenpois0n merchandise. While that doesn’t change anything in the jailbreak game, it’s bound to keep many fans happy.
More on state of iPad 2 jailbreak, as it develops. Stay tuned to ChipHazard.
