Without a doubt, many iPad 2 owners anxiously await iPad 2 jailbreak release. The latest development is that Greenpois0n RC 6.2 or any other newer version won’t jailbreak the iPad 2, it has been confirmed. Rather, the Chronic Dev Team are creating an entirely new program which will jailbreak iPad 2. However, until that is released, be wary of fake iPad 2 jailbreaks.
Joshua Hill, a.k.a @p0sixninja of the Chronic Dev Team has revealed this. He said in a tweet:
Just for the record, our iPad2 jailbreak won’t be called greenpois0n
He further clarified in a reply:
@iFreezey it means we’re creating an entirely different program for this jailbreak.
So from the above two tweets, it is evident that the Chronic Dev Team is not going to bring iPad 2 jailbreak support to any newer version of Greenpois0n, rather it is creating a totally new program, the name of which is obviously not known at this moment.
Previously, we’ve seen @p0sixninja challenge iPhone hacking maestro Geohot to dump the A5 iPad 2 bootrom before he does. There still has been no update on the status of Geohot iPad 2 jailbreak. On the other hand, the team is destined to release Greenpois0n RC 6.2 which will bring the ability to jailbreak iOS 4.3.x on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch using Greenpois0n. Ever since iOS 4.3 came out, Greenpois0n was the only program that was not updated to jailbreak newer firmwares.
The fact remains that we’re not that excited for a new iOS 4.3.x jailbreak. Rather, we’re more anxious for an early release of iPad 2 jailbreak. We have yet to see what this new program is and when it will possibly be released. On the other hand, we already know that Stefan Esser, i0n1c, doesn’t have an iPad 2 jailbreak and we shouldn’t expect him to release one.
More updates on the iPad 2 jailbreak state, as they develop. Stay tuned.
