Earlier today, Apple seeded iOS 5 beta 2 to developers. iOS 5 beta 2 is supported by iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad 1G, 2G, iPod touch 3G, 4G and Apple TV 2G. Apple finally unveiled iOS 5 at WWDC 2011 and for public, iOS 5 will be released in Fall. Bear in mind that Apple only releases beta firmware for developers, So in order to download iOS 5 beta 2 on iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, you need a developer account with Apple that alone costs $99/year. Previously, it was expected that Apple would release iOS 5 beta 2 somewhere around the mid of July as we had reported that iOS 5 beta 1 will expire on August 4, 2011. However, it looks like beta 3 of iOS 5 may be imminent by June, as Fall 2011 isn’t that far off.
The changelog indicates that wireless sync will now be triggered by all iOS 5 beta 2 running devices, provided that they are on the same network as their Mac machine. iOS 5 Wireless syc isn’t available from Windows as of now. Also, iOS 5 beta 2 brings the usual performance improvements and bug fixes.
Alongside iOS 5 beta 2, Apple has also seeded iTunes 10.5 beta 2, which is required for updating your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch to iOS 5 beta 2. Please note that for wireless sync to work on your Mac, it is mandatory that you have iTunes 10.5 beta 2 installed on your Mac machine.
Remember: Installing developer beta firmware on your iOS device requires that the UDID of your device is activated. If you have an unactivated device, installing beta firmware on it will make it useless. Therefore, it is mandatory for you to get the UDID of your iOS device activated, before you download and install iOS 5 beta 1 on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.
To find out the UDID of your iDevice, simply connect it to your computer and start iTunes. Select your device from the taskbar on the left and click where it says Serial Number. It will automatically switch to UDID and will show you a long string of numbers and alphabets. That is your UDID, and you need to get it activated.
