Currently, Sn0wbreeze will jailbreak iOS 5 beta 2 tethered on iPhone 3GS (new bootrom), iPhone 4, iPod touch 3G, 4G and iPad 1G. The iPad 2 can not be jailbroken as of now. On the other hand, if you have an iPhone 3GS (old bootrom) Sn0wbreeze 2.8 beta 3 will jailbreak iOS 5 beta 2 untethered, which is only limited to this device.
Tethered jailbreak requires that you connect your device to the computer if it reboots or the battery is drained. Untethered jailbreak is devoid of all such problems.
