According to ChipHazard’s well placed sources in AT&T mobility division, it has come to our attention that the next generation iPhone, presumably dubbed as the iPhone 5, is now in the hands of 3rd party beta testers, which are carrying out rigorous tests before the final green signal is given for mass production. According to our information these devices were handed over to AT&T beta testers on July 6th.
There has been much speculation regarding the next generation iPhone. Most probably it will have a dual-core processor, larger screen, thinner design, possibly greater storage and obviously, iOS 5. However, even that does not stop the rumor mill from churning at full speed. We’re already hearing countless rumors each day about possible feature, specification and release dates of the iPhone 5, but nothing seems to come from a credible source.
This on the other hand, comes from people who really have the information on what’s going on. Our sources claim that the next generation iPhone is in the hands of beta testers right now. They are running tests, including but not limited to signal reception and connectivity tests. They have been given the pre-release version of the iPhone 5 and as soon as they are done with the testing phase, the final work would be sorted out and Apple would then direct manufacturers to start producing hundreds of thousands of new iPhone 5 units, so that they could be timely shipped to millions of anxious iPhone users, and prospective iPhone owners, around the globe.
It has been over an year now since the iPhone 4 was announced back at WWDC 2010. People were hopeful that at WWDC 2011, Apple would give some details about the upcoming iPhone, even if it doesn’t formally announce it on that day. However, WWDC 2011 was strictly a software only affair this year. Apple sternly kept its focus on Mac OS X Lion, iOS 5 and iCloud and did not even breathe a whisper about the next generation iPhone.
On the other hand, there is strong indication from analysts that Apple may push back the September Music Event to release a new iPhone in that month. So if that really is the case, it makes all the sense in the world for beta testers to have their hands on the iPhone 5 right now, as September isn’t that far away, and Apple would really have to pull up its socks if it wants to pull off an iPhone 5 release this September.
May be Chip Hazard is going to leak iPhone 5 images this time!! Sorry Gizmodo! but you cannot win every time like last year! We’ll update you more on the next generation iPhone, as we hear more about it from our sources. Keep checking back.
