Download RedSnOw 0.9.8b4 for Tethered jailbreak iOS 5 beta 4

Earlier today Apple seeded developer beta 4 for iOS 5. This release was accompanied by iTunes 10.5 beta 4. One doesn’t have to be an Einstein to figure out why iTunes 10.5 beta 4 was released.  You would not be surprised to know that iPhone Dev Team has pushed an update of RedsnOw 0.9.8 beta 4. As iTunes update is to iOS, RedsnOw update is to iOS.

RedSnOw 0.9.8b4 released

Like Mac OSX Lion Apple has released iOS beta 4 as Over the Air (OTA) update. This means that users with iOS 5 b3 can simple upgrade to beta 4, thus eliminating the need to download 700 Mb file. Apple will be using OTA for all future updates, iOS 5 onwards.

RedsnOw 0.9.8b4 can be used to Tethered Jailbreak latest iOS 5 beta 4 on iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad1. RedsnOw 0.9.8b4 is not compatible with iPad2 as it uses A5 processor. We recommend iPad2 users to stick to iOS 4.3.3 to enjoy the jailbreak freedom.

iPhone Dev Team in the official release said:

In conjunction with iOS5 beta4 being released to iOS developers, redsn0w 0.9.8b4 is now available for jailbreak app developers (point the b4 redsn0w at the b4 IPSW).  Remember, it’s a tethered jailbreak right now so you’ll need to use redsn0w to boot into a jailbroken state at each power cycle.

The jailbreak is tethered for now, but we’re certain that untethered version will not be released anytime soon. We have come to this conclusion keeping in mind the fact that only Tethered version of RedsnOw was for iOS 5 beta 3. Whatever history might suggest we are still keeping our fingers crossed.
