Just yesterday, Apple seeded iOS 5 beta 5 for developers. The fifth pre-release beta of iOS 5 brings a host of bug and performance fixes along with the inclusion of a couple of new features. Due to the fact that iOS 5 beta 5 ipsw download links are up online, may people who aren’t actually developers, do get to try out beta iOS 5 firmware as well. Our readers have been incessantly asking us as to when an iOS 5 beta 5 jailbreak will be released, considering the fact that with previous beta releases, it took hardly 12 hours for the devs to release the jailbreak, so what’s the hold up now? Details, after the jump.
The iPhone Dev Team always releases a new update to redsn0w 0.9.8 beta whenever Apple seeds a new beta of iOS 5 firmware. In the past, we have seen MuscleNerd make a release announcement with in 2-3 hours. This time, a whole day has passed and many are wondering as to why MuscleNerd hasn’t even mentioned iOS 5 beta 5 in any of his tweets yet. It is a known practice that he warns jailbreakers about updating to latest firmware, this time we saw none of that as well.
Yesterday, we reported about a major iOS hacker/jailbreaker gathering at DEF CON 19 in Las Vegas. DEF CON is the world’s biggest hacker conference and it takes place every year. This year, attendees included Geohot, Saurik, p0sixninja, nitoTV and our very own MuscleNerd. Other members of the iPhone Dev Team and the Chronic Dev Team were also present. As you probably would have guessed by now, MuscleNerd and his crew have been busy the past few days and with DEF CON 19 finally coming to an end on August 7, we can now surely expect a redsn0w update for iOS 5 beta 5 tethered jailbreak very soon. If you are wondering whether redsn0w 0.9.8b4 which was originally released for iOS 5 beta 4 jailbreak, will be able to jailbreak iOS 5 beta 5, then you are mistaken and this is why:
iPhoneism claims to have tried jailbreaking iOS 5 beta 5 using redsn0w 0.9.8b4 by pointing it to iOS 5 beta 4 ipsw. Albeit a few glitches, the jailbreak process did complete and they were able to get a white Cydia icon on the Home screen. A white Cydia icon appears on the screen when your tethered jailbroken device has not been booted tethered. According to them, redsn0w 0.9.8b4 is unable to boot the device tethered which inevitably leads to the conclusion that redsn0w 0.9.8b5 will be released very soon, probably in the next 24 hours as they claim, for iOS 5 beta 5 jailbreak on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.
We’ll update you as soon as redsn0w 0.9.8b5 with a detailed guide on how to jailbreak iOS 5 beta 5 tethered on your iOS device. Stay tuned!
