How To Jailbreak iOS 5 Beta 5 iPhone, iPad, iPod touch Tethered Using Redsn0w 0.9.8b5

As we had previously reported, the iPhone Dev Team has finally released redsn0w 0.9.8b5 to jailbreak iOS 5 beta 5 tethered on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Only two days ago, Apple released iOS 5 beta 5 for developers and it surprisingly took the Dev Team over 2 days to release a redsn0w update, and we know what exactly was the reason behind the delay. Nevertheless, you can now download redsn0w 0.9.8b5 to jailbreak iOS 5 beta 5 tethered on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

iOS 5

About three days back, we reported about a major iOS hacker / jailbreaker gathering at DEF CON 19, which is the largest hacker convention in the world held annually in Las Vegas. Needless to mention that MuscleNerd, who always tells us about redsn0w release, and the rest of iPhone Dev Team were present there and were presumably quite busy. That is the reason why the iPhone Dev Team took around three days to release a redsn0w update for iOS 5 beta 5 jailbreak while in the past with previous betas, we have seen them release a new redsn0w update in less than 12 hours of iOS 5 beta firmware release.

redsn0w has been updated to 0.9.8b5, adding support for Apple’s new iOS5 beta5 (point it directly at the beta5 IPSW). Please use this only if you’re a jailbreak app developer with a legit Apple dev account, and remember it’s a tethered jailbreak for now!

Redsn0w 0.9.8b5 will jailbreak your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch tethered on iOS 5 beta 5. If need arises that you have to reboot your device or it loses charge, you will have to connect it to the computer every time to boot it tethered. There is no iOS 5 beta 5 untethered jailbreak as of now and we highly doubt that there is ever going to be one. The devs won’t release an untethered exploit because Apple will patch in future betas, so the only hope we have of an untethered jailbreak is when iOS 5 goes live for the public.
