Steve Jobs Resigns As CEO Of Apple, Tim Cook Named As Successor

This news has come unexpectedly out of the blue. Apple CEO Steve Jobs has resigned as the CEO of Apple. Rumours were flying around before that Apple was looking for a replacement of Steve Jobs, but before the board could make a decision, the founding father of Apple Steve Jobs himself has tendered his resignation to the Board of Directors at Apple Inc.

Some excerpts from the resignation letter sent by Steve Jobs:

I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come. I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the board sees fit, as chairman of the board, director and Apple employee. As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple. I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role. I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.

In the ton of iPhone 5 rumours that have been coming in each day, never had anyone heard the slightest mention of a resignation from Steve Jobs. As we previously mentioned, this move has come totally out of the blue and we’ll have to see how the market reacts to it when it opens up tomorrow morning.

As far as succession is concerned, Tim Cook former COO of Apple has been named the new CEO of Apple by the Board of Directors. Steve Jobs will continue to be the Chairman Board of Directors at Apple and obviously a major shareholder in the company.

Steve Jobs had taken an unannounced medical leave of absence from the company earlier this year in February sparking concerns about his health. Lets hope that after resigning and taking the weight of being a CEO off his shoulder, Steve Jobs will have healthier days ahead.

We wish all the best for Steve Jobs and can’t wait for his upcoming official biography!
