Only yesterday we told you that ChipHazard will be reporting on all of the updates from MyGreatFest 2011, an event which was smoothly conducted earlier today in London. Probably the best news that came in was from a very prominent member of the Chronic Dev Team, p0sixninja. He revealed to very delighted attendants that Chronic Devs have 5 totally new userland exploits which can be used for iOS 5 untethered jailbreak on iPhone 5, iPad 2 as well as other supported devices.
Only yesterday when we taught you how to watch MyGreatFest online, we revealed that p0sixninja of the Chronic Dev Team will be talking about the iPad 2 jailbreak we know he’s been working on since a very long tine. Indeed he did talk about that, and to everyone’s delight, he revealed that his team have their hands on 5 userland exploits ready to be used for jailbreaks. He added that this was going to be the best jailbreak ever.
Notorious iPhone hacker Geohot had first accepted a challenge from p0sixninja in which both of them we’re trying to dump the A5 bootrom. We never really saw the result of that challenge as Geohot gave up his iPhone hacking for a cool job at Facebook. Basically, bootrom based exploit are preferred because they can not be patched without changing the actual hardware itself. Userland exploits are software based and patching them is as easy as releasing a new software update. So yes, these amazing number of userland exploits don’t mean that Chronic Dev Team will stop working on dumping iPad 2 bootrom all together, p0sixninja states that they will work hard on that, but for the time being the fact that there are 5 new userland exploits that can be used for iOS 5 untethered jailbreak as soon as it is publicly released is amazing on its own. Who wouldn’t love an early iOS 5 untethered jailbreak!
As far as iOS 5 untethered jailbreak for iPhone 5 is concerned, p0sixninja has said that they first need to actually get an iPhone 5 and use it, only then they can be certain whether or not their userland exploits will guarantee an iOS 5 untethered jailbreak for iPhone 5.
Looking at the recent rumours, both iPhone 5 and iOS 5 have been slated for release next month. We surely can’t wait for them and obviously, neither can you.
