iOS 5 Untethered Jailbreak Not Possible Soon

Those of you who think that just because no iOS 4.3.5 untethered jailbreak or iOS 5 beta untethered jailbreak was released you’ll be able to jailbreak iOS 5 untethered as soon as it is released to the public, are gravely mistaken. There won’t be an iOS 5 untethered jailbreak release any time soon after Apple releases its biggest iOS update ever to the public.

When Apple announced iOS 5 back at WWDC 2011 it released the first beta to developers the very first day. The iPhone Dev Team was able to jailbreak iOS 5 beta 1 and they soon released it for all those devices that are vulnerable to the Limera1n bootrom exploit. Up till now, devices compatible with iOS 5 can only be jailbroken tethered using redsn0w or sn0wbreeze. There was obviously no point in finding and releasing an untethered jailbreak exploit for iOS 5 beta versions because surely Apple would have patched the exploit when it seeded an update of iOS 5 to developers.

In iOS 5 developers will have a hard time trying to locate and develop untethered exploit. Tethered jailbreak for iOS 5 after its public release will be readily available, its the untethered iOS 5 jailbreak that will take time and will make people impatient. Honestly, no one likes to connect their jailbroken iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to the computer every time their device reboots. Its too much of a hassle.

Nevertheless, @p0d2g of the Chronic Dev Team tweeted a couple of days back that his team was hard at work for developing an untethered iOS 5 jailbreak exploit for supported iOS devices. Don’t take this claim to your head though, in the past we’ve seen the Chronic Dev Team tout the fact that they were inching closer and closer to releasing an iPad 2 jailbreak but that never really happened. In the end it was Comex who released a jailbreak for iPad 2. Its not that they can’t do it, its just that they might not be too focussed.

Regardless of that, with legendary iPhone hacker Geohot working at Facebook and Comex getting hired by Apple, the jailbreak scene is already short of two amazing developers and the absence of their presence will obviously make matters worse and probably delay the release of iOS 5 untethered jailbreak. We’re not saying that an untethered iOS 5 jailbreak might never release, it will definitely be released but probably not as soon as you think it will be.

I don’t believe a word of it, the biggest thing iOS 5.0 has been advertised for is the UNTETHERED jailbreak for iPad 2 and iPhone 5 because the chronic dev team gas found five exploits for tha a5 chip!!

“We’re not saying that an untethered iOS 5 jailbreak might never release,…” — actually, the title of your post says exactly that it WILL never release. The rest of the sentence contradicts that. Perhaps you left off a trailing ? in the title of your post!

Read the last sentence of your article, then re-read your headline.

    Wanna try again?

I’ve never understood how often some people reboot their device. I use it all the time, so I reboot maybe once per week. I think I’ll find the time to get the tethered jailbreak on for those rare times.

Soooo…it IS possible…in direct contadiction to the headline of your article? Well at least you got me to look at the article…

Oh man, did you blow this one! For one, there will ALWAYS be a jailbreak, sooner or later, so never say it’s “not possible”. Secondly, the jailbreak is already ready:

It was mentioned above that you contradicted your title in the last line of your article; it’s like you talked yourself out of your opinion as you wrote. Edit, maybe?

…maybe you oughta try something different than tech reporting, because this is article is an EPIC fail.
