Apple’s Code Names For Its iOS Versions Unveiled By Developer

We have been hearing code names for Android OS version releases but what about Apple ? . Well apparently like Android, Apple also have code names for its OS version releases as unveiled by a developer.

Those name are not sugary like Honey or Ice cream like Android but still the code names for iOS versions are quite interesting. Following are the code names for iOS versions in ascending order :-

  • 1.0: Alpine (1.0.0 – 1.0.2: Heavenly)
  • 1.1: Little Bear (1.1.1: Snowbird, 1.1.2: Oktoberfest)
  • 2.0: Big Bear
  • 2.1: Sugarbowl
  • 2.2: Timberline
  • 3.0: Kirkwood
  • 3.1: Northstar
  • 3.2: Wildcat (iPad only)
  • 4.0: Apex
  • 4.1: Baker
  • 4.2: Jasper (4.2.5 – 4.2.10: Phoenix)
  • 4.3: Durango
  • 5.0: Telluride
  • 5.1: Hoodoo

Oh yeah except iOS 2.1 nobody has a sweet name compared with Android OS versions. Also if you look at the the first name “Alpine” , it is used as the default password for every iPhone when connecting over SSH.

Well looks like the latest iOS which will get an untethered jailbreak is called Telluride. So jailbreakers, don’t update from Telluride to any version especially that nasty Hoodoo which doesn’t have any bugs fixed and also you won’t be able to downgrade back to Telluride.

The code names seem pretty interesting to use already, wonder why Apple never disclosed them publicly before.
