Cequint Sues Apple Over Caller-ID Technology Patent Infringement

Just when we thought the patent battles were confined within Apple and Google, another US company “Cequint” sued Apple over patent containing Caller-ID Technology infringements according to a report today.

Cequint Inc. is a company located in Seattle, which is a unit of data-network service provider TNS Inc. of Reston, Virginia. The company’s main focus is on Caller ID Technology which has accused Apple of damaging its business with the continued use of its technology and seeks a court order to stop Apple’s use of its inventions.

So what’s so special about this CID technology ?, these kind of things are very common these days ! . Well you must have noticed that when a person calls your cell and you don’t have his name fed in your Phone-book then just a simple number appears but with technology you can still see the name of the person calling even if you don’t have his name.

Don’t worry it’s not magic ! , this specific technology uses the database from the carrier to identify the name because of which that name pops up on the screen when someone calls even if you don’t have his number, also you can save that name which appears with a single click.

Cequint has major telecom giants as customer which includes AT&T, T-Mobile USA, Samsung and HTC. Till now there is no comment by Apple regarding the subject, we’ll let you know what Apple has to say about misusing this technology. Hope they don’t drag FRAND into this again ! .
