When somebody hears the name of Apple, one thing that comes to mind is iPhone and the other is “Lawsuit” which Apple tends to takes much pride in!. The main battles of Apple regarding patents involved smartphone makers like Samsung etc but now after a long time the Cupertino company gets attacked by someone else.
That someone else is the 131-year old photography company Kodak has filed a lawsuit against the fruit giant and HTC over its four patent violations. The photography company had previously tried to get its hand on the Cupertino company before. With this patent lawsuit, Kodak seeks to survive bankruptcy.
Wall Street Journal reports :-
The 131-year-old company is still making last-ditch efforts to sell off some of its patent portfolio and could avoid Chapter 11 if it succeeds, one of the people said.
But the company has started making preparations for a filing in case those efforts fail, including talking to banks about some $1 billion in financing to keep it afloat during bankruptcy proceedings, the people said.
The patents that Apple infringes are unknown but judging by the description of the company, the patents must be related to some photo processing methods. Kodak has filed this lawsuit in mere desperation to avoid bankruptcy which it fears to face.
The only hope for one of the oldest company relies on Apple buying its licenses. Judging by the previous history Apple will do everything to protect the company’s image in-front of the world and the only way for Kodak winning this lawsuit would be for the Fruit giant getting into agreement to settle things on purpose.Further details will reflect the behavior of Apple and HTC.
