The video game streaming company, OnLive has announced that it will be offering a virtual Microsoft Windows 7 app for the iPad absolutely free and will working to expand the support to other platforms like Mac.
With the release of such app by the company, iPad users will be able to access Windows PC application including Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint which would run on the company’s data canters in the cloud.
Here’s how it’ll work, the app will use the streaming technology and server farms that the company’s gaming service uses. The company’s data servers are equipped with huge computing power and probably to fill in the void, OnLive would be offering such desktop virtualization service which might worth the money they are spending.
The app will be offered in two packages, free and premium with the former offering 2GB cloud storage and limited office applications. The premium package will offer 50gb of cloud storage, additional application support and priority server access.
The app will be released on Thursday this week in US and will soon release in UK . It will be available for free with the optional premium package.
