AT&T has changed the fee for subscribers upgrading their devices on contract starting today. The previous fee which was $18 has now changed to double the previous amount due to which the current device upgrade fee is $36.
AT&T spokesperson informed BGR via e-mail :-
Wireless devices today are more sophisticated than ever before. And because of that, the costs associated with upgrading to a new device have increased and is reflected in our new upgrade fee.
This fee isn’t unique to AT&T and this is the first time we’re changing it in nearly 10 years.
Event thought the upgrade fee isn’t expensive but still, the reason behind this decision doesn’t sound compelling and just seems to be another way of squeeze more money from the customers.
The company might have made the decision on the basis of the arrival of new smartphone devices like iPhone 5 and Galaxy S3 coming in the following months this year which would be very profitable for the company.
If you’re looking to upgrade your device, just be careful regarding the $36 fee, you might wanna change your carrier! .
