Despite Apple selling more than 35 Million iPhone devices last quarter, the Korean handset maker Samsung has finally exceeded the number by shipping more than a staggering 42.2 million shipments in the first quarter of this year. Thus, Samsung’s now boasts nearly a third of the market at 29.1 percent, while Tim Cook’s company commands 24.2 percent share of the market.
Speaking of which, the other smartphone manufacturers, Nokia came in third place (behind Samsung, Apple) with just 11.9 million smartphones shipped, which a year ago, led the pack with 24.2 million units shipped. RIM came in fourth place with 9.7 million smartphones shipped and HTC came in last place with just 6.9 million.
Strangely enough, it’s the first time the report has pitted Samsung ahead of Nokia and that to with with 30 million more units shipped in total. Following are the figures for the vendors for 1st quarter of 2011 and 2012.
Most of the contribution towards Samsung’s success goes towards it famous, best selling Galaxy S2 which also won the best smartphone of the year 2012 award. With the unveiling of Galaxy S3 just two away, many users are expecting it to be the next big thing, which would not only current Android users, but those Apple users looking for an upgrade.
