How To Run iOS 6 3D Maps On iPhone 4/3GS and iPod Touch 4G [Guide]

On this past Monday, Apple unveiled it’s new iOS version 6 at this year’s WWDC event. This over-hyped update contained numerous additional features like “Do Not Disturb”, “Setting a Song as alarm” etc.  The most interesting/worthy feature addition was the replacement of Google Maps with the brand new 3D Maps engineered by Apple.

Just like Siri, this new 3D maps feature isn’t compatible with the older A4 and lower iOS devices – once again compelling users to upgrade to the newer iOS model in order to enjoy full benefits of the new iOS features. Just like Siri port on low-end iOS devices, hackers and developers have managed a way to successfully port  the new 3D maps to iPhone 4/3GS and the 4th gen iPod Touch.

An Apple-bent Russian site iGuides, or specifically, member Anton Titkov (known as iTony), who has dug deep into the brand-new firmware version in order to attempt to unlock the 3D capabilities on the A4 based devices. The only problem the hacker is facing is the turn-by-turn feature but rest works fine.

The procedure is a little complicated so we have provided a step by step tutorial below through which you can port Apple’e new iOS 6 3D maps to iPhone 4/3GS and 4th gen iPod-Touch. Your device running iOS 6 beta should be jailbroken on-order for the port to work.

How To Port iOS 6 3D Maps On iPhone 4/3GS and iPod Touch 4G

Step 1: Download the required .deb file[Link].

Step 2: Open the terminal app on your device or through SSH type the following:

apt-get update

then

apt-get install mobilesubstrate

Step 3: :oad the .deb file onto your device in /var/mobile via WinSCP (Windows) or Cyberduck (Mac), before entering:

cd /var/mobile

dpkg -i  com.alpden.3denabler_1.0_iphoneos-arm.deb

Step 4: Ensure you respiring (or, to be safe, reboot) in order for the changes to take effect.

That’s it!, enjoy the new 3D maps on your non-iPhone 4S device. There might be few glitches but with time the port will become more stable.
