Despite the fact that Brazil will soon enough become the 4th largest country in terms of Smartphone users, HTC feels that its samrtphone devices don’t interest users that much in the country and have planned to not only cancel the planned One Series smartphones launch but also they will not be selling any smartphone model in the country.
According to an HTC executive,
after analyzing the sales numbers, we have decided to pull out of the Brazilian market.
So what are the factors behind their downfall in the smartphone market?, well for starters HTC has stopped manufacturing in Brazil and which results in more expensive devices as the Brazilian Govt punishes companies who are exporting from outer countries by raising taxes so at the user end the deals are not that tempting.
Secondly, for over-priced rates they have been selling low-end/less-popular devices such as Wildfire etc, whereas other companies like Samsung has captured the market by releasing popular Galaxy series smartphone devices at attractive price deals via phone carriers just like other countries.
Finally after a long time HTC manufactured quality ONE series smartphones which had some nice features in terms of hardware but since they couldn’t build the momentum they needed, it would have been very difficult. However if they had stressed on marketing all over the country, their demise wouldn’t have mattered but utilizing a narrow-minded approach, HTC has lost the battle ground in Brazil to other vendors such as Samsung, Motorola and Apple.
