Next Gen Adreno 320 Benchmarks Revealed, Fails To Outperform New iPad’s GPU

This year new Android devices mainly featured new Chipset designs, quad-core CPUs and slightly upgraded/over-clocked GPUs. However, Qualcomm launched the new Krait CPU architecture which came equipped in some HTC devices like One S and some variants of One X  but Qualcomm didn’t stress enough on their Adreno GPU technology to include the new 3xx version this year.

However the new Adreno 320 GPU is set to arrive in the quad-core S4 pro SOC which would without a shadow of a doubt help in the much needed boosting of performance. The benchmarks have appeared for the new GPU and while it does beat the current Mali and old PowerVR GPUs, it fails to impress when it comes in comparison with the new iPad’s GPU.

Check out the following benchmarks to have a better understanding regarding the performance :-

All the upcoming GPUs next year including Adreno 3xx, Mali “Midgard” T6xx, Tegra 4, and PowerVR SGX 6, would come with support for the new OpenGL ES 3.0 standard, OpenCL 1.2, Google’s RenderScript (mainly used to speed up app interfaces), and DirectX11 version 9_3. However, don’t get too much excited about Direct X 11 since it’s much likely that new GPUs would come with full fledged features of Windows version.

By analyzing the above benchmark chart, the performance of the Adreno 320 is roughly double the performance of the current Adreno 225 found in the S4 SoC, which might sound a little impressive but it’s performance in comparison with the current PowerVR SGX543 MP4 GPU inside the new iPad is still weak.

With Mali 400 already impressive performance in Galaxy S3, ARM wows to release next T6XX series with 5 times more power than it’s predecessor which will surely put its competition on all platforms through a very rough challenge. GPU wise, Qualcomm seems to remain behind once again from its competition whereas PowerVR and Mali T6xx series GPU will definitely give everyone a very hard time in terms of performance.

PowerVR SGX543 MP4 has 4 GPU while the Adreno 320 has one, right?
