Apple-Samsung Major Patent Trial Hearing Starts Today In the U.S.

After numerous battles, a high-stake technology trial involving Apple and Samsung is set to kick off today in U.S. over design and patent infringement claims involving Samsung’s Galaxy lineup of smartphones and tablets and Apple’s iPhone and iPad.

The companies will start the tedious process of jury selection today, and the 10 jurors that will hear the two parties make their cases over the following month will have to reach an unanimous decision for either company to win any of the patent claims in place.

So what does both the company wants?,well Samsung apparently wants 2.4 percent of Apple’s sales for use of its mobile communications technology. Apple on the other hand reportedly wants half a cent per Samsung Galaxy device sold as a royalty fee and demands as much as $2.5 billion in damages from Samsung(ouch!).

While Samsung’s wireless patent would easily be proven and would get its 2.4 percent, Apple on the other hand would have a hard time convincing the jury towards its stupid design-copy patent. Here’s what Apple would show in the hearing :-

And here’s what Samsung would present :-

In one statement, following is what both Smartphone giants have to say.

Apple :-

Samsung is on trial because it made a deliberate decision to copy Apple’s iPhone and iPad

Samsung :-

in this lawsuit, Apple seeks to stifle legitimate competition and limit consumer choice to maintain its historically exorbitant profits.

Initially there will be no firy battle fought since there would just be legal formalities performed on the first day. Later on things will heat up and would eventually end up in a big mess.
