When iPhone 4 hit the stores in 2010, people faced problems with the phone’s reception. They complained for the device to lose signals upon holding it in a certain way, specifically when the black strip at the bottom left corner of the device was covered. Apple tried its best to dodge the bullet at first, by advising users to hold it properly but with alleviating number of complaints, this became a scandal known as Antennagate.

As a result of this, Apple held a special press conference to ease up the users’ frustration by offering them free bumpers, which would solve the reception problem, if they bought the iPhone 4 before a certain date. For those iPhone 4 adopters who didn’t take advantage of Apple’s offering of a free bumper, it had been settled for those users to get $15 compensation. Several reports are now floating, which indicates that users are starting to receive the promised compensation in the form $15 checks.

The checks were first issued on 17th April, which will remain valid until 16th July (as shown in pic above). Apple had stopped accepting claims on August 28 of 2012, so if you have a defective iPhone you can’t lodge your claim now. Have you received a check from Apple yet?

Keeping up with its high measures of standards, Apple has been rumored to have returned a batch of an astounding 8 million iPhone devices to Foxconn, as it allegedly wasn’t on par with the Fruit giant’s quality requirements.

This citation has been made today by The Register, which pointed to a report published by China Business. According to the report, the whistleblower was an anonymous Foxconn employee, who revealed that around 5-8 million iPhone units were sent by Apple, “due to appearance of substandard or dysfunctional problems.”

If this report is true, then it’s a huge setback for both the companies, especially Foxconn. With an estimated manufacturing cost around $200 per handset, the iPhone assembler would face a damage of nearly $1 billion, and it would it would leave Apple facing disturbance in iPhone supply.

The report doesn’t mention how many of those allegedly defective iPhones consisted of iPhone 4, 4S or 5. Keeping up with quality control with the introduction of iPhone 5 have been a daunting challenge for Foxconn workers. At one point Foxconn even admitted that iPhone 5 was the most difficult device to assemble. With Foxconn already facing problems in manufacturing iPhone 5S, if today’s setback turns out to be true, than the manufacturing of iPhone 5S is likely to face yet another delay.

Around two weeks ago, Analysts reported that Apple’s upcoming products including iPhone 5S, lower-cost iPhone 5S and second-generation iPad mini could be facing a delay in their release due to production issues. The report specifically targeted the iPhone 5S to be facing a delay in release, due complications arising from the inclusion of fingerprint sensor.

A new report published by Reuters, paints a similar picture to that shared previously by the analyst, as it suggests that the production of the iPhone 5S was initially scheduled for June but got delayed. Here’s what the report says:-

date may have begun to slip beyond June, the sources said. The phone, widely referred to as the iPhone 5S, is expected to include new features such as a fingerprint sensor. A supply chain source in Taiwan said Apple was trying to find a coating material that did not interfere with the fingerprint sensor, and this may be causing a delay.

With that said, the report also confirmed that Apple will indeed launch a cheaper iPhone, which will use the same 4-inch display of iPhone 5, but will sacrifice some features such as the fingerprint scanner, and will ship with a plastic body to keep costs down. Its small-scale production will commence from May, with mass-production beginning the following month.

Apple has a pretty regulated procedure when it comes to warranty claims. However, an electronic store in China found certain loopholes in Apple’s warranty system and turned a huge profit from it.

An ingenious group of five employees carried out a high-tech scam by returning fake iPhone components to Apple by claiming them to be broken “official parts”, and in return they received genuine Apple components from which they built and sold real iPhones.

According to the report, the retailer had managed to submit an astounding number of 121 fake iPhone 4S internal boards to Apple, until the Fruit giant found out that components were not genuine. It took Apple a month to detect this fraud, after which police took action and arrested store engineers along with staff members.

Looks like these Chinese folks misunderstood what Apple actually does with those faulty parts, they might have presumed for the wealthy iPhone maker to just destroy the parts that came in for replacement instead of inspecting them.

Apple iPhone users on iOS 6 facing the DND (do not disturb) bug will automatically receive a fix this coming Monday (7th Jan), until then you have to manually turn off the DND feature to receive notifications.

The Fruit giant has finally acknowledged this annoying DND related bug which caused iOS 6 users to not receive any notifications from their loved ones. Instead of fixing this minor bug with a simple update, they published a support document which caters the solution for the bug.

Do Not Disturb scheduling feature will resume normal functionality after January 7, 2013. Before this date, you should manually turn the Do Not Disturb feature on or off.

This isn’t something you expect from a company that sells over-priced premium smartphones which recently got a decade old feature introduced in iOS 6 with such annoying bugs!. But hey!, according to them it’s still the most awesome iPhone yet, who are we to judge.

If it were just a one-day glitch, maybe then things might not seem so odd but this problem prevailed for a longer time and users kept complaining but to no avail. Oh well, it’s not the first time Apple made a big boo boo and dodged the bullet, remember Apple Maps?.

Since Appe isn’t going to anything to fix this issue, just turn the scheduling feature off by navigating to Settings > Notifications > Do Not Disturb and switch Scheduled to Off.

Despite the non-availability of jailbreak, you can change your iPhone or Cellular iPad device’s carrier logo without jailbreaking your iOS device by using an app called CarrierEditor .

Until now there’s still no way to jailbreak post-A5 devices running iOS 6, which has made iOS users desperate for using jailbreak tweaks. Taking into consideration this, devs have come made their every best effort to squeeze out jailbreak-like functionality into iOS devices that wouldn’t need “Jailbreak”. Hence the slogan “no jailbreak required” is getting popular these days.

While there are plenty of alternatives for Jailbreak enabled devices for changing Carrier logo on your Cellular iOS device, CarrierEditor app provides the same functionality without breaking the barrier.

Following are the steps shown for changing the Carrier logo:-

Step 1: Download CarrierEditor [App LINK] and mount the CarrierEditor.dmg file.

Note: Download is only available for Mac OSX systems.

Step 2: Run CarrierEditor.app, and click Let’s Get Started.

Step 3: Go to Settings >> General >> About on your iOS device to obtain the Carrier Version Number of their hardware. Type that version number into the Carrier Version Number field and click Next.

Step 4: In the Carrier drop down box, select the name of your carrier, and click Next.

Note: Only Cellular-based iPhone, iPad devices will work (duh!).

Step 5: Next is the customization page where you’ll select the logo. Either use the provided carrier logos in the menu or upload your custom carrier logo which you would’ve made by cydia apps like Zeppelin in Cydia. Just Drag and drop the image file into the provided box before selecting Compile Carrier Update (.ipcc).

Step 6: Once the logo is compiled, CarrierEditor will save both the original and the custom logo (by dumping a .ipcc file) to your desktop. Select the How to Install the Custom Carrier Update option.

Step 7: Now open iTunes and connect your device to the computer. Press and hold the option key on your keyboard(when summary page for your device appears) and then click Restore iPhone (or Restore iPad) to open a navigation box

Step 8: .Navigate to your desktop where the logo was saved, and select your custom .ipcc carrier file and click open. You should see your carrier logo change on your device. If you don’t see the change reboot your device.

That’s it!, you’ve successfully changed your iOS device’s carrier logo.

Note: If you want to revert back to the original carrier logo, simply repeat step 8, but this time select the .ipcc file labeled original.

Want to control iPhone’s Proximity Sensor for your defined gestures?, well the new Always On Proximity tweak is a package that gives the end-user control over the hardware sensor. With this you can manually turn on and off the sensor of your jailbroken iPhone at will.

This jailbreak tweak makes use of the Activator package from Ryan Petrich to allow users to specify a custom gesture to invoke the given functionality. When that gesture has been set from within the Activator preferences panel, the proximity sensor will be enabled or disabled depending upon your customization.

This can prove to be a really good app in certain conditions like when you want to automatically lock your iPhone device when you slide into your pocket etc. Though that can create problems when you’re using the iPhone in a dark area. There’s seems not much usability of the proximity in practice but it’s upto you to explore possibilities that can originate from using this app.

Unlike many other Cydia apps, Always On Proximity is available as a free of charge download from the Big Boss repository with no specific iOS version requirements specified so go on and try out this free jailbreak tweak.

Great news!, you can enable tethering on your iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch devices running iOS 5.1 or higher without jailbreak by downloading an innocently titled FlashArmyKnife app from the official App Store!.

Alongside a hidden tethering feature, this app combines seven little utilities: flashlight with adjustable brightness, built-in web browser with bookmarks, fully functional trigonometry calculator, satellite view map, currency converter, compass and battery indicator. Since these features look quite simple for any iOS moderator to bother filtering, that’s how the hidden tethering feature got overlooked and made it’s way to the App Store (genius!).

So let’s get down to business, how to enable Tethering through this app?. To enable tethering, run the app and hit the Calculator tab at the bottom.

Punch in the following (without comas): 1642, M+, C, 1452, M+, C, 1943, M+ and you’ll see “run” displayed on the calculator. Tethering is now enabled on your device (HTTP port: 6667, SOCKS port: 6668).

To stop tethering, tap the “C” button on the calculator. See how easy it is!, without any need to jailbreak you can not only enable tethering the easy way but also disable it even more easily.

Regarding how long will it survive on the App Store?, well not much longer since this app is gaining popularity it’s not long before the officials nuke this app’s existance. So head towards the App Store through the link below and get this awesome app for $1.99.

Final Fantasy is a Japanese Role Playing game, this franchise has been around for a very long time and has been loved by millions. As promised, this RPG title has hit the App Store in the form of Final Fantasy 4. The best thing about this release is that it’s a universal released so users on all iOS platforms can enjoy this classic.

Yes you heard it right, not only you’ll get the standard iPhone/iPod version but as well as the iPad version without the need to separately purchase a copy for the iPad tablet. Though the graphics aren’t top-notch, the latest iOS hardware will get more load to bare as this version includes additional iOS-only features like brand new 3D graphics and new backgrounds.

For those who like to keep tabs on their friend’s progress, there’s a Game Center support too, for comparing their progress with friends. While it’s low-end graphics can be processed by any iPhone 3GS – iPad device and beyond, the graphics has been optimized for iPhone 5′s bigger resolution as well.

In the world of $0.99 and free games, this game is available for download with a hefty price-tag of $15.99 so if you can afford it then head towards the App Store and get your copy.

Apple has officially released the latest update, version iOS 6.0.2 for iPhone 5 and iPad mini and this IPSW is available for download via direct links of you can update your device via OTA if this firmware has been reached your device’s region.

So what does this update brings?, well apparently this firmware for iPhone 5 and iPad Mini “fixes a bug that could impact Wi-Fi.” More precisely it fixes the Wi-Fi bug that was related with new and emerging 5GHz Wi-Fi band.
For information on the security content of this update, please visit this website:
