With Apple releasing its new OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion to the world, existing Mac users easily upgraded to this OS, with it being available as a digital download via the Mac App Store, it could easily be installed in a matter of minutes without get lost in the mess of optical disks and other lengthy procedures.

Not only it’s easy for Mac users to install the latest OS X, but also Windows users can now comparatively easily download and install the OSX as well. Thanks to the UniBeast method of creating a bootable USB drive, Windows users can now also take benefit of Apple’s latest OS X features. Following is the method through which you can get the pieces of puzzle sorted out.

REQUIREMENTS :-

Access to a Mac to download OS X Mountain Lion from App Store and prepare UniBeast USB Drive.

A minimum of 8GB or larger USB flash drive.

A PC capable of running OS X Mountain Lion.

Step 1: Download the latest version of UniBeast [Link]

Step 2: Create a bootable USB drive containing OS X Mountain Lion with the formatted USB plugged into an available USB port on your Mac, open up an instance of Finder and navigate to/Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility and highlight the relevant USB drive in the left hand column of the interface.

Step 3: Select the Current drop down menu and choose the 1 Partition option. Then select Options underneath Partition Layout menu and make sure the Master Boot Recordoption is checked. Click Ok.

Step 4: Under the Format header, make sure Mac OS Extended (Journaled) is selected. Select Apply before selecting Partition.

Step 5: Run the UniBeast 1.5.1 application . If UniBeast is giving you an error message relating to Mountain Lion being missing, make sure the installation file downloaded from the Mac App Store is located in the /Applications folder.

Step 6: When UniBeast is running, skip through the first few screens before selecting the relevant USB drive on the Select a Destination screen. Choose Continue, then enter your system password for approval. UniBeast will then look for the Mountain Lion installer file in the/Applications folder and install it to the USB drive.

That’s it!, the partitioned USB drive will have a functional version of OS X Mountain Lion on it that can then be used on a PC to create an installation of Mountain Lion. Following is what you will have to do for installing it on computer.

Step 7: Insert the USB drive into the PC and make sure that the machine is set to boot from USB through the BIOS.

Note: The next 3 steps ( 8-10) are only required for new installations.

Step 8: After booting from the drive, you should now be in the OS X installer. Set the desired language, choose the Utilities option from the menu bar before selecting Disk Utility. Select the target hard drive for the installation of Mountain Lion on your PC and click the Partition tab.

Step 9: Once again, select the Current drop down, select 1 Partition before selecting Optionsand choosing GUID Partition Table. Type in Macintosh HD as the name of the partition and once again set the Format toMac OS Extended (Journaled).

Step 10: Click Apply then Partition before closing down the Disk Utility and then simply install Mountain Lion on this hard drive. When the process is completed, restart the machine. When the machine boots up, choose the new Mountain Lion option to make the drive bootable.

That’s it!, you no longer need to purchase expensive Apple hardware to experience the new features the came with the new OS X.

Over the weekend we reported that VMWare’s new version of Fusion (4.1) release came up with the ability to virtualize non-server version of Leopard and Snow Leopard by the users which was a violation of Apple’s OS X licensing terms.

Whenever a Fusion user tried to virtualize the above mentioned OS, a dialog would appear which left the legality decisions to be made by the users which appeared to be an intentional decision by VMware, but apparently that’s just a bug that VMWare is probably going to fix.

VMWare Blog :-

Mware Fusion 4.1 was released late last week and includes many great improvements. One change was the introduction of a new license verification step for users to verify they are in compliance with the OS licensing terms.

When the license verification step was added in VMware Fusion 4.1 the server edition check was omitted. We are preparing an update.

Running Mac OS X client in a virtual machine continues to require Lion (purchased from the Mac App Store or a USB thumb drive.) Users should always ensure they remain in compliance with any applicable software license agreements.

So they forgot to put a check for server version in that verifying step. It’s unclear still whether if the intentionally made that specific verifying step or was it just an accident. The above mentioned statement by VMWare doesn’t actually gives any indication about that being a mistake or intentional.

Anyways if you still want to virtualize the non-server versions, don’t update to the next version of Fusion to avoid any problems.

VMware has released the updated Fusion 4.1 that contains many bug fixes and improvements over the last version of the virtualization software. The biggest improvements it brings is the ability to run non-server versions of Leopard (Mac OS X 10.5) and Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6).

Previously VMware Fusion supported only the non-server version of Lion, as the Apple’s OS licensing policy specified that only server version of Leopard and Snow Leopard could be run in virtualization mode. Despite of the fact that the policy didn’t specify anything regarding the non-server version, it was assumed that the policy prohibited the action

Even though the Fusion software can run the client version of Leopard and Snow Leopard, there was still fear that Apple might come after the software company and sue them. So then VMware tackled the situation by thinking different and came up with a unique solution.

If the user tries to install the client versions of Leopard or Snow Leopard, a dialog box appears( shown in the picture above) that gives users the option to decide whether the OS is licensed to run or not. This act saves VMware from being the culprit as it gave the whole burden for users to carry of making the decision of running the client mode legality through verifying the license..

When a user tries to install Leopard or Snow Leopard in Fusion 4.1, a dialog box appears that says, “Verify that the operating system is licensed to run in a virtual machine.” In essence, this removes VMware from the position of having to evaluate and enforce Apple’s operating-system license, and instead leaves the decision in the hands of users.

Lets see if the smart move by VMware is questioned by the authorities at Apple or not, but in the mean time just by agreeing that the OS is licensed to run, you can freely install the OS. You can read the documentation by VMware HERE.

Apple yesterday released the much awaited Mac OS X Lion which is available for $29.99 in App Store. The new OS X brought a lot of new and exciting features among which is the inverted scrolling. If you don’t know what inverted scrolling is, it is when you swipe your finger downwards, the screen will move in the opposite direction just like touchscreen smartphones.

Using inverted scrolling is completely new in case of computers and getting used to it is a problem for many people who upgraded to Mac OS X Lion. If your annoyed by the inverted scrolling and want to disable it we have a fix for you.

How to Disable Inverted Scrolling on OS X Lion

You can easily disable it by following some simple steps shown below.

Step 1. First of all, open System Preferences on your Mac.

Step 2. Now, in system preferences look for Trackpad.

Step 3. Go to “Scroll and Zoom” tab.

Step 4. There in the menu, you will see “Scroll Direction: Natural”. If you want to disable inverted scrolling on you Mac, just disable it. And you have successfully disabled inverted scrolling on your Mac.

If you are using Magic Mouse, you can follow some steps below:

Step 1. Go to System Preferences

Step 2. Select Mouse

Step 3. Uncheck the following, “When using gestures to scroll or navigate, move content in the direction of finger movement.” and this will disable inverted scrolling using your Magic Mouse.

Is Apple is trying to make Mac more like iOS by introducing features which were present in iPhone and other iDevices. Not really sure what the Devs at Apple were thing while adding this feature to a desktop. Will it be the new trend or will Apple have to revert this? Well i think we all have to wait for the answer. Share your view with us using the comments section below.

326 days after releasing Snow Leopard, today Apple has released Mac OS X 10.7 or as it is most commonly known as, Mac OS X Lion. It was unveiled at WWDC 2011 alongside iOS 5 and iCloud. Apple has been naming Mac OS X after big cats (Cheetah, Puma, Jaguar, Panther, Tiger, Leopard, Snow Leopard) and Lion is the eight major release of Macintosh. This love for cats has not always been an easy sail as Apple was taken to court by Tiger Direct for naming OS X v10.4 Tiger.

Mac OS X Lion, as previously mentioned, is Macintosh’s eight major release. Lion brings over 250 new features to supported Mac computers. Dedicated Mac users were anxiously waiting for Lion release up till now that is, as Lion has to be the most extensive update, feature wise, to Mac as yet.

Lion is compatible with Mac machines that bear Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, and Xeon processors. Not sure about your hardware? Confirm by clicking the Apple logo at the top left of your screen and selecting “About This Mac”. There’s one great thing, amongst many, in Mac OS X Lion. Its the fact you don’t have to rush to your nearest Apple Store in order to get your hands on it. Lion has been rolled out in the Mac App Store.

Previously Mac updates costed $129. Mac OS X Lion will only cost you $29.99 for the Mac App Store. It downloads locally (4GB file) on your authorized Mac and automatically starts the upgrade. Once you’ve done that, your Mac will be updated to Lion. Best of all? No reboot required. You don’t have to download or pay for multiple copies of Lion, as all of your personally authorized Macs will be compatible for upgrade to Lion, once you’ve paid the initial $29.99 charge.

In OS X v10.7 Apple has imported features from iOS like multi-touch gestures and Launchpad. Apple has also made changes to how applications work. Now applications resume in the state they were closed. Is Cupertino facing innovation drought?

Regardless of that, let’s rejoice for the fact that Lion has finally been released! So what are you waiting for? Fire up your Mac, launch the Mac App Store and get your dose of Mac OS X Lion, right now!

Minutes ago Apple has released a iOS 5 beta 3 for developers, along side which they have also released a iCloud Beta 4. This is only released for Mac users. So if you have Lion you might want to give iCloud beta 4 a test run. Apart from this releases, Apple has also released iTunes 10.5 beta 3 for Mac and Windows.

Here is what new in iCloud beta 4:

As this is beta software, it is recommended that you do not use the iCloud services to store any critical data or information. If you enable iCloud Backup, automatic backup with iTunes when syncing will be disabled. We suggest you also manually back up your device with iTunes.

In the iOS 5 beta, support for data protection in iCloud Backup is unavailable. Apps that have protected files will not have any of their data or metadata backed up as a result.

After restoring, you may not be able to back up again because the device still thinks it’s restoring. To workaround this issue try syncing apps or media that are missing form iTunes or try deleting your iCloud account and adding it back.

If you delete your backup, the feature will be disabled but settings may still indicate that it is enabled and you will have to toggle the BackUp to Cloud switch in Settings.

For compatibility reasons, this version of the iOS 5 beta requires that all files be backed up again, instead of only those files that have changed since your last backup. This may cause a warning that your accountis over quota. In case the warning occurs, you can delete your oldest backup to free up space and then initiate a backup.

The catch here is that iCloud beta 4 is only for GSM variants of iPhone which means that its only for at&t and will not work on Verizon CDMA iPhones. Sorry guys but you will have to wait till the final release of iCloud expected in a few months.

Remember: If your on OS X Lion and using iCloud and update to Lion GM Seed release, you must install iCloud for OS X Lion beta 4 and continue to use iCloud. This way you will not need to re-install iPhotos to continue using Photo Stream.
